Job summary
Applications are invited for a replacement post of Consultant Chemical Pathologist to join the current Consultant Chemical Pathologist working in Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. You will join an enthusiastic and forward-thinking clinically orientated team working to optimally develop the laboratory and clinical service. The new post will be 6PA's, with the substantive Consultant working 7PA's and a Clinical Scientist working 1-2 days per week. The current Consultant is also Clinical Lead and current Laboratory Director, although both these roles would be rotational with the new appointee.
The post is advertised as 6PAs per week (with no out of hours working). The exact job plan and working day pattern will be arranged with the successful candidate within 3 months of acceptance. You should possess FRCPath or equivalent and be on the Specialist Register of the GMC (or within six months of obtaining CCT).
Main duties of the job
The successful post holder will be appointed to a 6PA position in a replacement post and share the following roles with the current Consultant Chemical Pathologist by discussion around clinical duties.
- Offering clinical guidance and scientific advice and assistance to hospital clinicians and general practitioners on the selection, performance and interpretation of clinically relevant tests, and may be involved in relevant ward rounds;
- Working with the BMS, Clinical Scientist and MLA staff in the laboratory with clinically related queries;
- Shared authorising of laboratory results and other laboratory-related tasks;
- Actively encouraged to develop specialist interest to support the clinical service of our users - particularly an interest in protein chemistry interpretation relevant/complementary to our expanding Haematology clinical service would be welcome;
- There is an expectation for direct clinical care in Lipid clinics as well as an opportunity for further clinical sessions in areas of interest. Current departmental clinical activity includes:
- Lipid clinics - including direct cardiac referral of inpatients - with dietician input available in clinics and links to FH screening services
- Renal stones - including Urology MDT
- Parenteral nutrition multidisciplinary ward rounds and supervision
- Endocrine clinics
