Job summary
The successful candidate will be expected to provide a high-quality service in all aspects of STI diagnosis and management, complex Genito-urinary medicine presentations, including syphilis, genital and pelvic pain syndromes, genital dermatology, HIV care and Contraceptive and Sexual Health Services. This will include adoption and maintenance of best practice guidelines as offered by BASHH, BHIVA and FSRH, and continuing and enhancing our profile and engagement with local, regional and national colleagues, groups and networks.
The service is flexible and evolving, and as such represents a great opportunity for pushing forward and developing innovative services in line with best practice.
The contract is a part time post of 8 PAs per week, comprising of 6.5 DCCs and 1.5 SPA. The job plan can be flexible to reflect the specialist interests of the successful candidate. It requires no evening, weekend or on call work. During SPA time, the Consultant will be required to work on Trust directed activities as agreed with the Directorate Manager/Clinical Director alongside managing their CPD. The post holder will have their job plan reviewed regularly to monitor delivery of service level objectives in line with Trust policies.

Main duties of the job
The Sexual Health Service will have three Consultants (2.4 WTE) in Genito-Urinary Medicine (Sexual Health + HIV), working collaboratively (9PAs, 7PAs and this post (8 PAs)). The successful applicant will be expected to take a role in Safeguarding and STI diagnosis and management within the service, although all 3 Consultants will cover GUM clinics. One of the consultants is currently Sexual Health Service Clinical Lead and HIV clinical duties will be shared across all 3 Consultants.
Contraception services are led by one of the two existing Consultants (0.8 WTE), who has developed a special interest in Complex Contraception, and an experienced SRH Speciality Doctor (0.4 WTE); they are both FSRH-registered trainers. They are supported by colleagues in Gynaecology through defined advice and referral pathways e.g. acute gynae assessment clinic, hysteroscopy, menopause clinic. Both existing GUM Consultants are LARC fitters and it is anticipated that the new Consultant will also ideally have Letters of Competence in IUT and Implants. The successful applicant will be expected to provide contraception within GUM walk in clinics, including Emergency IUDs, and may be asked to provide SRH clinic cover according to their interest and level of experience.
