Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Psychologist (Band 7) to work in the Spires Cleft Centre for 26 hours per week (0.69WTE), based within Salisbury District Hospital. This is a locum position, offered for 12 months to cover a period of maternity leave.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in a specialised and dynamic multidisciplinary team, working with children and adults born with a cleft lip and palate and their families. The Spires Cleft Centre in Salisbury is part of a dual-site service with the site in Oxford. The post will be based in Salisbury, although occasional travel to Oxford and Newbury would be welcomed in order to attend meetings.

Main duties of the job

This post involves working within an experienced and supportive MDT of plastic and maxillofacial surgeons, speech and language therapists, clinical nurse specialists, orthodontists, reconstructive dentists and geneticists. Psychology is well established and highly valued by theSpires Cleft Centre and the post holder will offer a psychological perspective in MDT clinics and clinically led psychological triage, assessment and intervention to children, young people, adults and families affected by cleft lip and/or palate.

A key role is the use of standardised assessments and questionnaires contributing to national data sets. In addition, the post holder will work with children, young people and families experiencing psychological distress in relation to experiencing visible difference, difficulties with functional consequences of their condition or difficulties coping with planned surgical procedures and treatment as both outpatients and inpatients.

The post holder will work under the supervision of the lead clinical psychologist in Oxford and have a close working relationship with a clinical psychology colleague also based in Oxford. There is also a psychology assistant currently working part-time within the Salisbury team. There are numerous psychology colleagues working in different areas of physical health both in Salisbury and Oxford.
