Job summary
This is an opportunity to join the Emergency Department Psychiatric Liaison Service (EDPS) in Oxfordshire, delivering vital mental health support within a fast-paced and rewarding clinical environment. The service works closely with the Emergency Department to provide timely psychological assessment and short-term therapeutic interventions for both young people and adults who present following episodes of self-harm or suicide attempts.
In this role, you will play a key part in supporting individuals at a critical point in their care pathway. You will undertake comprehensive psychosocial assessments, contribute to risk management and safety planning, and deliver evidence-based, short-term psychological interventions aimed at reducing distress and promoting recovery. The position also involves working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams within the hospital, as well as liaising with community mental health services and other partner agencies to ensure appropriate follow-up care and continuity of support.
The successful candidate will be part of a compassionate and highly skilled team committed to providing patient-centred care in an acute setting. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop specialist skills in crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and emergency mental health care while making a meaningful difference to the lives of individuals during some of their most vulnerable moments.
Main duties of the job
Supporting and supervising the work of EDPS frontline staff in offering outpatient follow-up as well as carrying a case-load of follow-up cases yourself.
Additional duties include quarterly teaching to Emergency Department colleagues about mental illness presentations as well as offering reflective practice and clinical supervision for the frontline EDPS staff, joining the EDPS leadership team in developing the service and extending opportunities for reflective practice to our Emergency Department Colleagues.
