SAS Psychiatrist - Community Adult Eating Disorders - Savernake

The closing date is 08 March 2026

Job summary

We are recruiting for a Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry to join our community-based Adult Eating Disorders Service, delivering specialist care to a diverse population across Wiltshire and Swindon, with a combined population of over 900,000 people. This well-established service provides assessment and treatment for adults with eating disorders and continues to grow in response to increasing demand. The team currently receives approximately 7-10 new referrals each week, reflecting both rising clinical need and the service's strong reputation.

You'll be primarily based at Savernake Hospital in Marlborough, close to our award winning specialist adult eating disorders inpatient unit. The role is predominantly community-focused with minimal inpatient responsibilities. The service is actively developing flexible models of care, including community outreach and remote working, allowing clinicians to work closer to patients' homes and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

This is a 10 PA substantive post, with part-time and job-share options welcomed, and includes home-based on-call participation.

This role offers strong consultant supervision, a supportive team culture, and excellent opportunities for professional development, CPD, teaching, quality improvement, and CESR progression, making it an ideal opportunity for psychiatrists seeking a rewarding specialist role with real impact at both patient and service level.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist psychiatric input to an established community Adult Eating Disorders Service, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support assessment, treatment planning and ongoing care. The role involves undertaking new assessments and follow-up reviews, contributing to clinical decision-making, and supporting safe, effective care delivery across community-based pathways
  • Work closely with the Consultant Psychiatrist and MDT colleagues, offering psychiatric expertise, contributing to risk management discussions, and supporting coordinated care with primary care, acute hospitals, and other mental health services.
  • Participate in regular MDT meetings, referral discussions, and service planning, and will be responsible for maintaining high-quality clinical records and preparing reports in line with Trust and GMC standards. The role also includes involvement in teaching, supervision, audit, quality improvement, and service development activities.
  • Take part in a home-based on-call rota (approximately 1 in 14), primarily providing senior medical advice with consultant support available. This advisory on-call commitment is designed to be sustainable and well balanced alongside the community-focused nature of the role.

Please refer to the job description attached for a comprehensive list of duties.
