Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Band 5 Public Health Staff Nurse to join the newly integrated 0-19 Children and Young People's Public Health Service in the City North locality, covering North Oxford, including Wood farm, Barton, Cutteslowe, Summertown, Botley and Kidlington and surrounding villages. The service brings together Health Visiting, School Health Nursing and the Family Nurse Partnership to deliver the Healthy Child Programme, providing high-quality, innovative support to help children, young people and families thrive.
The role involves working with children up to 8 years where there are identified concerns or vulnerabilities, delivering targeted health episodes of care in areas such as behaviour, diet and sleep. The post also supports the new four-year health and development review to aid school readiness.
This role offers opportunities for professional and leadership development, community health promotion, and involvement in Oxfordshire's Young Parents Pathway alongside Specialist Practitioners.
Applicants must have a full valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work. Adjustments can be considered in line with the Equality Act 2010 where required.
Main duties of the job
Within the caseload, and as delegated by the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse the post holder will contribute to the safe and effective delivery of the 0-19 service.
You will be based within the locality (neighbourhood) and will work with the 0-19 teams in that area and supporting county wide work where needed, for children aged 0-8 years. The role involves working in partnership with children, young people, families, primary care, schools and statutory and voluntary services and other partner agencies to facilitate health-enhancing activities and improve health outcomes.
You will deliver services to children and families within homes, and community settings.
Clinical activities will include assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating family focused care under the delegation of a SCPHN Health Visitor/School Health Nurse and working in partnership with other agencies.
The role includes undertaking Healthy Child Programme developmental and transitional assessments and planning, delivering and evaluating public health initiatives through community-based health promotion activities.
The role will require the post holder to adhere to Safeguarding policies and actively engage under the supervision from a SCPHN in safeguarding processes, including Early help assessments and Team around the Family processes.
You'll be working in partnership with other agencies and develop, participate and maintain interagency networks.
