Job summary

Are you a Specialty and Specialist Doctor seeking a rewarding role in Oxfordshire delivering high quality mental health care in a general adult inpatient service, with no on call commitment?

We are seeking two specialty doctors, one to work on Phoenix Ward and one to work on Vaughan Thomas Ward. You will work alongside the appointed full-time consultant and a highly motivated and integrated multi-disciplinary team as a full-time substantive specialty doctor in either Phoenix Ward or Vaughan Thomas Ward, based at Littlemore Hospital or the Warneford Hospital respectively.

You will have clinical leadership opportunities and medical education and supervision to support your professional development. You will also be part of a rich trust wide specialty doctor network. The Trust is committed to high quality teaching and training for medical students, post graduate trainees in psychiatry, specialty doctors, students and other professionals and we work closely with the Psychiatric Department of the University of Oxford.

Main duties of the job

The Specialty Doctors will be based at either Phoenix Ward or Vaughan Thomas Ward, based at Littlemore Hospital or the Warneford Hospital. Inpatient Specialty Doctor posts were created to enhance the development of Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Services in Oxfordshire. As part of the medical team, you will be responsible for supporting your team in ensuring that our service users' needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care, offering a person-centred approach to their independence and well-being.

Key components of the role include:

  • Day-to-day management of the inpatients on the wards. Including contribution to: ward-rounds, care and treatment review of patients, discharge planning meetings, and Mental Health Act managers or tribunal hearings.
  • Liaison with other services, e.g. adult mental health teams, as required.
  • Contributing to service development, clinical audit and quality improvement.
