We are looking for a full time Ward Manager to work in our purpose built, state of the art 8 bedded Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for young people in the Thames Valley. The PICU will be part of a system of mental health care for young people which comprises both community and inpatient provision. The PICU will provide a range of specialist treatment approaches based on attachment theory and Positive Behaviour Support.

The PICU Ward Manager along with the Clinical Nurse Lead will be responsible for effective operational management, organisation and delivery of high-quality nursing care within the unit. Clinical leadership skills are a crucial component for the role which will include some shift working to support with effective role modelling and development of the nursing team.

Main duties of the job

  • Be responsible for the effective operational management, organisation and delivery of high quality nursing care and clinical leadership within the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
  • In conjunction with Head of Service, Service Manager and other Clinical Nurse Lead and Modern Matron, the post holder is expected to contribute in the development of acute service provision across the CAMHS Pathway and Oxford Health.
  • Provide, maintain and develop nursing care to the optimum standard possible within the resources provided.
  • Act as the clinical leader, providing role modelling, facilitation and education to the nursing team. This will include some shift working.
  • Support the provision of 24-hour full and accountable managerial responsibility for the ward.

The successful candidate will need to be an experienced, highlyskilled, and motivated registered Mental Health Nurse, who demonstrates excellent communication skills, and who is able to support and lead a team of staff, whilst working closely with the senior leadership team to manage the challenges of the environment and support the patients within our care.
