Job responsibilities

This countywide rotational post offers varied experience across paediatric and adult services. In childrens settings, youll support SLCN in homes, clinics, and schools. In adult rotations, youll assess and manage communication and swallowing needs in community settings. Each nine-month rotation builds clinical confidence and supports professional growth. Youll receive supervision, preceptorship, and CPD opportunities, and contribute to governance and service evaluation. Strong communication, organisation, and teamwork skills are essential. Applicants must be HCPC registered with a recognised SLT qualification.________________________________________Childrens Integrated Therapy (CIT) SLT RoleThe post holder will provide Speech and Language Therapy to children and young people (019 years) with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN) across homes, clinics, and educational settings. They will manage their own caseload, working autonomously and flexibly to meet individual needs, while collaborating with the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care.Educational Settings: Special Schools, Mainstream Schools, and Nurseries Special Schools: Support pupils with complex communication needs, often alongside autism, learning disabilities, or physical impairments. Use AAC, sensory-based approaches, and work closely with school staff and other professionals to embed communication strategies. Mainstream Schools: Focus on early identification and intervention for speech sound disorders, language delays, and social communication difficulties. Collaborate with SENCOs and teaching staff to implement support plans and promote inclusive communication. Nurseries: Deliver play-based interventions to support early language development, engage parents/carers, and train staff to create language-rich environments.The post holder will also contribute to service development, supervise junior staff or students, and maintain accurate documentation in line with professional standards.________________________________________Adult Speech and Language Therapy RotationAs part of the adult rotation, the post holder will deliver Speech and Language Therapy to adults with communication and/or dysphagia needs. This will include working in a variety of settings such as patients own homes, clinics, and care homes. The role will involve assessment, intervention, and collaborative working with wider health and social care teams to support safe and effective management of swallowing difficulties and communication impairments. The post holder will contribute to person-centred care planning and ensure therapy is aligned with current evidence and best practice.

Subject to funding, additional roles in new clinical areas may be added to the rotation.

This is a rotational post covering countywide services, and post holders are expected to travel between sites and patients homes as needed. Applicants must have a full valid driving license and have access to a vehicle for work. Adjustments can be considered in line with the Equality Act 2010 where required.

Qualifications

Essential

• Speech & Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
• HCPC registration (pending)

Desirable

• Formal post graduate training in dysphagia
• Specialty specific post graduate courses
• Registered & practicing member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT)

Skills and Experience

Essential

• Experience of working with children & young people with complex speech, language and communication needs
• Able to act independently and on own initiative, but recognize when to seek support
• Demonstrates knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to client group
• Demonstrates excellent communication skills in pressurised and stressful environments
• Competent IT skills for use of electronic health records and ability to adapt to new developments
• Demonstrates knowledge of range of SLT assessment tools & therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group

Desirable

• Experience of working as a band 5 SLT
• Completion of RCSLT NQP Competencies
• Experience of Therapy Outcome Measures TOMs
• Understanding of the statutory / legal requirements for working within the specialty including a working knowledge of the SEND code of practice
