About the Role:This exciting position offers the chance to lead the development and evaluation of the Treating Unmet Needs in Psychiatry (TUNEUP) team, a novel specialist service focused on the assessment and treatment of refractory psychosis. Under the expert supervision of Prof. Rob McCutcheon, you will work with cutting-edge digital tools and structured assessments to deliver evidence-based, state-of-the-art care to individuals with psychotic disorders.
What You'll Do:
* Develop and evaluate the TUNEUP service for patients with treatment-resistant psychosis* Conduct comprehensive assessments and manage care plans using advanced clinical tools* Contribute to pioneering research projects, including studies of novel interventions, neuroimaging, meta-analyses, and clinical trial data analysis

Main duties of the job
As the medical lead for the TUNEUP service, you will play a pivotal role in delivering expert clinical assessments, crafting detailed clinical reports, and managing our vital clinical databases. Your hands-on clinical responsibilities will include supervising clozapine initiations, spearheading the introduction of third-line treatment options, closely monitoring patient progress, and collaborating seamlessly with fellow healthcare professionals.
Beyond these core duties, you'll have the exciting opportunity to drive the growth and innovation of the TUNEUP service. The Oxford Psychosis Research group is focused on developing and implementing state of the art care for individuals with psychotic disorders.
We do this by:
A. Developing and evaluating novel clinical services where there is unmet need
B. Undertaking experimental medicine studies to better understand the neurobiology of psychotic disorders, and the mechanism of action of treatments
C. Performing clinical trials of novel treatments
D. Synthesising the literature to provide easy to implement evidence based clinical guidance.
The team consists of highly motivated individuals passionate about increasing our understanding of psychotic disorders, and improving outcomes for individuals with psychosis. The post will be ideal for a foundation doctor, core trainee, or staff grade with a strong interest in psychosis, psychopharmacology, and clinical research.
Responsibilities will be commensurate with competencies as established through external and internal training, including GCP and research study specific training.
To perform clinical and cognitive assessments, and produce clinical management plans. To develop and evaluate the service To contribute to the successful completion of experimental medicine studies in individuals with psychotic disorders. Manage own academic research and administrative activities, and contribute to the administrative activities of the group. Collaborate in the preparation of research publications and contribute ideas for new research projects. Present papers at conferences or public meetings. Supervise students and research assistants
1. Providing medical input to for patients attending TUNEUP. This includes: Full comprehensive assessments including the use of structured interviews, standardised scales, cognitive assessments, physical examinations, assessment of adherence. Production of clinical reports and maintenance of clinical databases. Explaining treatment options to patients and carers Leading community clozapine initiations (registration with monitoring agencies, prescribing, side effect review and management, monitoring response). Communicating with GPs and AMHTs Assessing capacity and ability to consent
2. Development and evaluation a novel service Developing service protocols Collecting and analysing data pertaining to the costs and effectiveness of the service Visiting AMHTs to describe the service and seek referrals Expanding the service to cover a greater geographical area
3. Working as a sub-investigator on clinical studies of novel treatments for refractory symptoms. new antidepressants. Taking consent Psychiatric and physical examination Accompanying patients for investigations Data recording
4. This post does not carry on-call responsibilities. Locum weekend or evening cover for other psychiatric services is sometimes available
