The Thames Valley Forensic Mental Health Service is seeking a Fitness Instructor to join its medium secure service in Oxford. Based on Evenlode ward, a 10-bed male learning disability ward at the Oxford Clinic, the role also involves outreach work with the community forensic learning disability team, supporting individuals detained under the Mental Health Act.
You'll set up and run the gym and sports programmes within the unit and develop community sports links. Working one-on-one with patients, you'll help them achieve health and fitness goals while promoting healthy living, including smoking cessation advice.
This role includes an RSU allowance of £1,446 per annum on top of your salary. An informal discussion about the opportunity, or a visit, is strongly encouraged.
Applicants must have a full valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work. Adjustments can be considered in line with the Equality Act 2010 where required.
Main duties of the job
- Plan, develop and provide health and fitness services in group settings or with individual patients
- Provide a programme of therapeutic activities appropriate to patients need within the service and establish service guidelines
- Use practical and technical skills with patients as directed by a member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT)
- Identify patient's strengths/risk and needs in order to plan health and fitness programmes with the MDT, taking into consideration physical health needs
- Evaluate the effectiveness of fitness programmes with patients, carers and MDT in order to modify and adapt interventions
- Record clinical information on patients' progress notes
- Liaise with members of clinical teams providing treatment and support for patients
- Be creative in their ways of engaging individuals in physical activity due to the nature of the client group
