n exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Skills Technician to join our evolving and innovative Learning and Development departmentto work primarily within the Clinical Education and Development team. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is passionate about supporting the delivery and growth of simulation and clinical skills teaching for all learners. The Clinical Skills Technician role will enable to you to work flexibly within a thriving and dynamic team, alongside supportive colleagues committed to providing excellent education opportunities for staff and learners.

Main duties of the job

The clinical skills technician role aims to support delivery and growth of the simulation and clinical skills teaching for all learners, as delivered by the Learning and Development Department. The post holder will have responsibility for the preparation of the training environments and provide training on the use of the equipment. They will monitor equipment stock, and have responsibility for ensuring adequate supply, maintenance of the equipment and ensuring the most effective learning materials are in place for all programmes. The post holder will also assist in the provision of audio-visual and other learning resources, in the clinical skills laboratory and other learning environments.

  • Prepare the teaching environment for each session, including set up of room and equipment and packing away of all equipment post session.
  • Facilitate the running of clinical examinations and practical examinations such as OSCEs.
  • Be an expert resource on the equipment held in the laboratory and instruct on the use of this.
  • Maintain set stock levels and report when stock levels need reviewing to ensure training delivery is not disrupted.
  • Maintain and organise equipment storage areas in a safe and orderly manner, ensuring equipment is kept in a clean and presentable state for users.
  • Prepare and ensure the upkeep of an inventory of equipment, including a booking out system if equipment is to be removed from the laboratory.
  • Support the production of training guidelines and materials under direction.
  • Liaise with manufacturers to troubleshoot equipment failures/issues and to seek product updates.
  • Liaise with estates department and manufacturers to ensure all equipment is safety checked at regular intervals including PAT testing.

Essential

  • Knowledge of simulation and/or clinical skills equipment.
  • Significant experience working as either a technician or in a healthcare role.
  • Experience of teaching and supporting learners.

Desirable

  • The ability to deliver a presentation to small groups.
  • Experience of working in an educational setting.

Education

Essential

  • Educated to A level standard or equivalent.
  • Degree in a relevant engineering or clinical subject, or equivalent experience.

Desirable

  • Basic Life Support Training.

Aptitude and skills
