Job summary

What would you do in a zombie apocalypse?

This is just an example of some of the quirky questions and challenges that will come from working with children and young people. It will certainly keep you on your toes and get you thinking.

We are looking for Nursing Associate Trainees to join our energetic, friendly, supportive and caring team at the Meadow Unit for their base during training.

You'll be working alongside nurses, doctors, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, family therapists, and dieticians to provide 24/7 compassionate care to young people admitted to the our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for children and young people.

We provide care for young people with a range of difficulties including eating disorders, anxiety OCD, depression and bipolar mood disorders, unusual experiences and psychosis, trauma, self-harm, and relationship and attachment-based difficulties. Families are often contending with multiple and complex psycho-social difficulties, and we aim to take a holistic approach guided by evidence and best-practice.

Main duties of the job

The Apprenticeship Programme is structured as follows:

  • 1 day per week at Bucks New University and 4 days in the clinical area working as a Trainee Nursing Associate.
  • An alternative placement each year of 12 weeks.
  • You will be expected to undertake some study in your own time.

You will receive a Band 3 salary for the duration of the 2 year programme and all apprenticeship fees are paid for by the trust.

On qualification, you will be able to register with the NMC as a Registered Nursing Associate. This apprenticeship will allow you to develop your skills and experience whilst providing excellent person-centred care.

We are a friendly, supportive, and proactive team where you will receive regular supervision as well as plenty of opportunities to develop your skills.

You will be provided training in Positive Behavioural Support, Dialectic Behaviour Therapy, PEACE and much more. You will also have opportunities to lead on Physical Health Treatment alongside nursing and medical colleagues on the ward.

Initially, a 2-year Apprenticeship training programme followed by the offer of a Band 4 Nursing Associate post upon qualification to continue working within the CAMHS PICU service.
