Occupational Therapy Technician - Community Rehabilitation Team

Job summary

The new community mental health rehabilitation team will offer specialist skills and care coordination to identify and address the rehabilitation needs of SMI patients. The team will offer step-down for appropriate patients leaving inpatient settings as well as support individuals with a psychotic illness placed in supported accommodation and those living in their own homes with high support needs. Their goal will be to enable an optimum level of functioning & independence.

This role will support the Occupational Therapy Team to support patients in meeting their goals.

Main duties of the job

  • Plan and carry out routine occupational therapy intervention and basic assessments with a rehabilitation focus with clients under direct supervision from OTs.
  • Carry out detailed intervention plans as directed by the Occupational Therapist
  • Evaluate Occupational Therapy interventions delegated by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Jointly carry a caseload of clients working in a client centred approach, with a rehabilitation and recovery focus to promote and increase independence.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To independently carry out routine occupational therapy activities and basic assessments following programmes set by the OTs, working with clients with a range of complex mental health needs.
  • To record all work completed with clients on clinical records and to share information with the OT supervising the case to allow for modification of programmes by the OTs.
  • To carry out informal assessments/observations and information gathering to contribute to the therapists holistic assessment.
  • To demonstrate how to implement client specific occupational therapy recommendations and resources to other professionals and carers.
  • To feedback information gathered from observations to the occupational therapists.
  • To work with clients towards achieving co-produced SMART goals.
  • To carry out duties in occasionally difficult, dirty working conditions i.e. in clients own homes and where verbal aggression may be experienced.
