Job summary
We are looking for a 1.0 WTE Specialty Doctor to provide clinical input to BEIS and BEDS.
The BEIS post is newly created due to expansion of the Buckinghamshire psychosis pathway (development of an At Risk Mental State (ARMS) Service) as well as the BEIS consultant taking on a managerial post. Service needs in this team may change as the ARMS service develops and so the proportion of overall time in this post between BEIS and BEDS may change also.
The BEDS post is newly created due to a consultant vacancy and reorganisation of the team.
The Specialty Doctor will have experience in psychiatric assessment and management and be expected to work across the 14-65 BEIS/ 18-65 (BEDS) age range. The post holder will work out of the Whiteleaf Centre in Buckinghamshire primarily, though will also conduct clinics in South Buckinghamshire (Saffron House, High Wycombe) and in the community, in line with the assertive outreach approach of the services. Successful applicants will have to demonstrate not only their experience and optimistic attitude, but also motivation, enthusiasm, flexibility, willingness to learn and an ability to engage and empathise at a variety of levels. Successful applicants will join a team of a consultant psychiatrist and trainees, as well as experienced and motivated MDT clinicians who wish to provide the best service possible to both clients and carers.
Main duties of the job
The Buckinghamshire Early Intervention Service (BEIS) provides early detection, assessment and intervention for 14-65 year olds who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. Its aim is to provide world class, evidence-based treatments in order to reduce the impact of the disorder for the individual and their families. BEIS is a clinical academic service, working alongside researchers from the University of Oxford and several joint clinical-academic posts within our sister service (Oxford EIS). The service is at the forefront of undertaking research in the area of early psychosis. We are partners of the Oxford AHSN Early Intervention in Mental Health Network (www.time4recovery.com) and of the NIHR CLAHRC Oxford Early Psychosis research programme (www.clahrc-oxford.nihr.ac.uk/). BEIS operates as an integrated multidisciplinary team of experienced and dedicated clinicians. The team has successfully recruited several agency staff into substantive posts and runs at a very low level of vacancies. Funding has recently been approved for an ARMS service in Buckinghamshire, which will be developing in close collaboration with the existing EI service.
