Cotswold House (CHO) is a Specialist Eating Disorder Unit based at the Warneford Hospital in Oxford. We are a 14 bedded inpatients service and offer 6-day treatment places.

CHO is a Parliamentary Awards Winner 2022 for The Excellence in Mental Health Care Award , as part of the Hope Adult Eating Disorder Provider Collaborative and we would love you to join our award winning team.

We are looking for a qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist who is registered with HCPC to join our diverse multidisciplinary team.

With a reputation for excellence, our service provides a stepped-care model of care tailored to the individual's needs for stabilisation and recovery.

Currently our service is piloting the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-ED) and other therapeutic interventions such as MANTRA, etc. We offer a range of CBT-ED programmes and evidence-based treatments to assist a patient's return to independent living, including work, training, or study.

We are looking for someone with expertise in working with adult with eating disorders and being part of a multi-disciplinary team. We are part of the Provider Collaborative of New Care Models, whereby we work with other care providers outside Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire and support each other in the allocation of resources and shared experience.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist psychological assessments of patients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
  • To make skilled evaluations to formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a patient's mental health problems, based upon appropriate conceptual framework of the patient's problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the range of care settings.
  • To implement a range of highly specialist psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups within and across the Adult Eating Disorder service, adjusting/refining psychological formulations, informed by different exploratory models and maintaining a number of hypotheses.
  • To evaluate/make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical/therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individuals, family or group.
  • To exercise professional responsibility for the assessment/treatment/discharge of patients whose problems are managed by psychologically based care plans, including communication with the referral agent /others involved in care.

You will be working with, and be supported by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist Eating Disorder Service. There are strong links with the Oxford Clinical Psychology Training Course.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology including specific models of psychopathology and psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS
  • Current registration with the HCPC as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist
  • Formal training in supervision of trainees and other psychologists.

Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist within Adult Mental Health.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and threat of physical abuse
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of adult people across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
  • Post qualification experience of working with eating disorder patients and their families.

  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
