DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching, training and supervision
To work with the Systemic Lead and have responsibility for overseeing the coordination, delivery, planning and assessment for the Foundation and Intermediate courses at Oxford Brookes University.
To support the Systemic Lead in the AFT accreditation process for the Oxford Brookes Courses.
To support the Systemic Lead in the delivery of the embedded Foundation and Intermediate year courses within the DClin Psych programme.
To deliver high quality teaching and top up systemic supervision which is informed by experience as a qualified Systemic Psychotherapist.
To assist the Systemic Lead in ensuring the effective integration of clinical, academic and research aspects of Systemic Therapy into the course appropriate to the needs and demands of modern health and social care services, and Doctoral award.
To provide highly specialist advice to trainees and supervisors on suitable topics for academic course work. This will include supervision of the development of research proposals and projects and highly specialist advice on reports of clinical activity and small-scale research projects, consultancy projects and doctoral research projects.
To provide doctoral clinical psychology trainees with highly specialist advice on all aspects of the systemic programme and within the post holders area of clinical specialism.
To liaise effectively with the Senior management team and course staff including administrative team, research supervisors, clinical placement supervisors, special interest groups, academic lecturers, service users and carers.
To provide individual academic development and support as appropriate to trainees in relation to course submissions and other aspects of training as appropriate. This can involve direct exposure to trainees emotional life and individual support for emotionally distressed trainees.
Policy, service development and implementation
To liaise with appropriate external organisations such as Confetti, Association of Family Therapy, University of Oxford, Oxford Brookes University and other national and international academic departments; systemic psychotherapy and clinical psychology colleagues in primary, secondary and tertiary care.
To take the lead in developing external links, and sitting on relevant bodies, so as to enhance the equality and diversity component of the programme.
To participate in meetings of the Group of Trainers in Clinical Psychology (GTiCP) and other meetings and committees of national bodies relevant to the strategic direction of the Oxford Doctoral Course in Clinical Psychology.
To participate in the annual selection process for trainee doctoral clinical psychologists and for CPD students.
To liaise closely will all members of the course team and to actively participate in strategic decision making in relevant Course meetings, including Programme Executive Committee, Year Tutor meetings, Board of Examiners meetings, Academic Review meetings, Training Committee meetings.
To assist the Course Director and/or Systemic Lead with additional duties as appropriate and as agreed to ensure the effective running of the Course which may include the Course quality assurance procedures.
To carry out the administrative tasks associated with the Systemic Tutor role. To keep up to date with and contribute to developments in policy development, service delivery and clinical practice within the relevant specialty area.
Information systems
To take responsibility for recording information accurately and sensitively, and respecting trainee and supervisor confidentiality in line with the AFT and British Psychological Society Codes of Conduct, Professional Practice Guidelines and GDPR.
To update the programme website with all relevant activities.
Research and Development
To supervise and support clinical psychology trainees in undertaking Doctoral level research. This will involve the provision of general advice and encouragement to trainees on suitable systemic topics for Service Improvement Projects, Systematic Reviews and Main Research Dissertation including development of formal proposals, drafts and submissions.
To support and provide specialist consultation and training to clinical supervisors and local services to facilitate the provision of Systemic Therapy experience at Doctoral level for clinical psychology trainees
To be actively involved in scholarly activity, including publishing and initiating original, clinically relevant research.
To collaborate with Course team members in research design, implementation and activity.
General
To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through activity participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post holders professional and service managers.
To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in Systemic Psychotherapy across the service, by taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal, and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of systemic psychotherapy, clinical psychology and related disciplines.
To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of UKCP, British Psychological Society, Health and Care Professions Council and Trust policies and procedures.
To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific patient group and mental health.
Please note:
- New starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.
- Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
