Job summary

Are you an enthusiastic Clinical or Counselling Psychologist who wishes to make a difference to patients with long term mental health problems, providing evidence-based treatments across Oxfordshire?

If so, we are looking for you to join our service as a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist. This is a key role to be part of the continuing development of psychological therapies within the integrated Adult Mental Health Teams (AMHTs) in Oxfordshire.

As a flexible employer we would welcome discussions about opportunities we can offer in posts both full and part time, and preceptorships for newly qualified Clinical or Counselling psychologists.

Main duties of the job

We would really like to hear from you If you have skills in delivering therapy to this client group and can demonstrate:

  • A good working knowledge of effective treatments.
  • Sound clinical risk assessment and management.
  • Experience of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
  • Supervising and consulting with therapists, trainees or other clinical staff as appropriate to the role.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will:

  • Work as part of the locality psychological therapies team within the Adult Mental Health Team, seeing patients individually and in groups, providing formal psychological treatment and/or management of a clients mental health problems.
  • Be responsible for the assessment, treatment, and discharge of patients whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
  • Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic models and complex factors concerning the patient's mental health difficulties.
  • Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to the wider Adult Mental Health Team to help develop their patient's formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Receive professional clinical supervision for yourself from other appropriately trained senior psychological therapy staff.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of the team's operational practices to ensure high quality, responsive and accessible services are available.

  • New starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical /counselling psychology including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
  • Registration with HCPC

Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training and qualification or experience in research methodology, staff training and /or other fields of applied psychology.
  • Eligible for BABCP accreditation
