Job summary

We have a exciting opportunity for someone to join our General Adult Psychiatry In-Patient wards as a Specialty Doctor

Vaughan Thomas Ward, based at Warneford Hospital and Phoenix Ward, based at Littlemore Hospital have currently 18 beds each. These wards are male, single-sex wards for the working age population of Oxfordshire. Medical staff provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team on the ward along with the ward manager and modern matron.

There are approximately 7 male admissions per week in Oxfordshire. Inpatients are treated by a multidisciplinary team led by a consultant and the expectation is that there is shared responsibility for clinical management at an appropriate level. Both Phoenix ward and Vaughan Thomas ward host health-based places of safety. All inpatients have a care coordinator (either existing or allocated) and it is expected that the CCO is actively involved in inpatient care, thereby forming a link to AMHTs.

Main duties of the job

The specialty doctor posts were created to support the development of the inpatient psychiatric service to adults of working age in Oxfordshire. The posts are currently vacant following the existing post holders moving to a new role.

The post holders will work alongside consultants, Drs Alvaro Barrera (0.6 WTE) and Dr David Welchew (0.6 WTE) on Vaughan Thomas Ward and Dr Alison Munden (1 WTE) on Phoenix ward. There are also F1, core trainees and higher trainees who provide medical care to the wards.
