We're seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals who would take on the Gynae suspected cancer triage/trainee menopause nurse role at 22.5 hours per week to work within our Gynaecology Ambulatory Service.In this role you'll play a key role in supporting women through the suspected cancer pathway

You will:

  • Triage Gynaecology referrals for suspected cancer patients and conduct telephone consultations.

  • Participate in clinic sessions and, with full training, develop your expertise in independent menopause care.

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for women with complex needs.

Main duties of the job

This role plays a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care within the Gynaecology Ambulatory Service. The post holder will:

  • Clinical Duties:

    • Triage Gynaecology referrals for suspected cancer patients and conduct telephone consultations.

    • Provide menopause assessment and management under supervision, progressing to independent practice.

    • Deliver Trust-wide menopause clinics, health promotion workshops, and staff education sessions.

    • Offer holistic, evidence-based care -- including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and lifestyle advice.

    • Prescribe and manage treatments (following non-medical prescriber training) and refer to relevant specialist services as required.

    • Support surgical menopause patients with pre- and post-operative care.

  • Communication & Collaboration:

    • Act as a central point of contact and advocate for women across the menopause pathway.

    • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team and liaise with primary and secondary care.

    • Provide specialist menopause advice and support to colleagues across the Trust.

  • Leadership, Education & Research:

    • Contribute to research, audit, and service evaluation to improve patient outcomes.

    • Develop and deliver education for patients, staff, and the wider community.

    • Participate in policy development and continuous service improvement initiatives

Roles and responsibilities- Be responsible for triaging Gynae suspected cancer referrals, ensuring patients are seen within the correct clinic- Undertake telephone consultations, to obtain additional patient information and provide patient with information and expectations of face to face appointments.- Under the supervision of a clinical trainer, commence training as a Menopause Nurse Specialist- Under supervision and with appropriate training undertake menopause clinics- To act as a resource for all corporate teams, providing specialist menopause advice and support- Provide Trust wide menopause clinics, advice, health promotion workshops and roadshows- Participate/lead investigations as required by Trust governance team- To be fully conversant with Trust wide policies and initiatives

Supporting clinical excellence- To provide support to patients via telephone when required- To contribute to the faster diagnosis pathway- Have an expert knowledge of the condition, all treatments options (including associated side effects; complementary therapies) and be able to signpost if needed- Be able to communicate at all levels, with women and staff, both in primary and secondary care. Methods include written and verbal communications including good documentation- Be able to undertake consultations independently, which include assessment, history, physical and psychological assessment, and risk assessments for example, pelvic assessment where appropriate- Be competent in the use of ordering and interpreting diagnostic tools/tests DEXA (bone densitometry, also called dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) relevant haematology assessments, ultrasound and genetic tests- Work with women, giving pre-operative and post-operative advice for surgical menopause and HRT advice- Hold independent clinics both face-to-face and as a telephone service giving independent holistic consultations- Undertake non-medical prescriber course, facilitating knowledge of drug regimens and side effects, including complementary therapies.- Undertake counselling or be able to refer to the appropriate services- Undertake referrals post-menopausal bleeding (PMB) clinics, fertility, investigations, metabolic bone/osteoporosis, genetics, psycho sexual care/counselling, bladder and bowel care, counselling, mental health, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)- Advise on lifestyle and complementary therapies and medicine, and ensure that current and long-term health is optimised
