Job summary

As the Senior Nurse/Clinical Manager, you will report to the Head of Occupational Health. You will incorporate a clinical leadership role with your managerial responsibilities and work autonomously in providing clinical advice and support to a range of professionals using specialist knowledge, skills, and experience.

You should have highly developed specialist knowledge underpinned by theory to lead the specialist clinical and administrative teams, and the interpersonal skills needed to win trust, inspire confidence, and influence people. A high degree of adaptability is also essential for this changing and challenging role working with our in-house services and external customers and commissioners.

You will have clear and focused leadership and actively contribute to maintaining professional standards; ensuring business continuity and high-quality services are delivered. You will ensure that key performance indicators are achieved and surpassed and that health & wellbeing is promoted at every opportunity and is at the centre of all activities and initiatives; to improve employee health.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for day to day activities of the service including managing a team of 14 staff including nurses, OH physicians, administration , physiotherapist and OH technician, providing OH services to 10,000 employees and external contracts for 6000 additional clients.

Leading the day to day service improvement of the service and providing safe effective quality Occupational health services.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Responsible for the day-to-day service activities and associated service planning in the short and long term, together with providing leadership to the OH clinical team including Specialist nurse, Specialist Physiotherapist, Counsellors, visiting OH Physicians and administrative team including the management of recruitment, retention and appraisals (Bands 3 - 7). Assessing the level of clinical service required and writing business cases for increasing the establishment to provide the required level of service required for the Trust.

Interacting with multiple customers and providing professional OH input in relation to new strategic business opportunities.

Acting as a Senior Nurse in OH field managing own clinical caseload and clinics with highly developed specialist knowledge, to the organisation and external clients; receiving, interpreting and presenting highly sensitive patient clinical information to develop care pathways. This will include risk assessing and giving immunisations relevant to the job role, carrying out venepuncture on a wide range of patient acuity and carrying out skilled investigations such as the Mantoux test requiring fine dexterity and manipulation.

Liaise directly with Consultants/ Physicians/Senior Managers in specialist services including infection prevention, microbiology, haematology, respiratory medicine, sexual health, health and safety and community-based specialist general practitioners. This may include providing information to them, and requesting information from them, to support care pathways and clinical outcomes for patients.

Responsible for interpreting highly sensitive blood borne screening results, case manage the employee, assessing the level of infectivity and making decisions as to the individuals employment status.

Responsible for a specific caseload of high-level new employment screenings making decisions as to their fitness for their employment. Attend case management meetings to provide specialist knowledge and advice in relation to fitness for work and post sickness rehabilitation.

Responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships and driving client satisfaction towards excellence; by continuous quality improvement of internal and external services.

Managing the third-party supplier contract for management referrals. Assessing the service provided, assessing the level of need of the trust and cost effectiveness of the service. This includes contract renegotiation if there are changes to the Trusts requirements.

Managing external clients contracts by attending contract meetings and renegotiating service level agreements on behalf of the Trust.

Working to create and scope new opportunities for service improvements and leading on key initiatives, innovation schemes / projects which support the delivery of OH and Trust health & wellbeing strategy.

Designing, developing, and delivering presentations to large groups including health & wellbeing training programmes and supporting OH staff in delivering training and wellbeing events.

Monitoring effectiveness of service through audit and customer feedback mechanisms and producing reports with recommendations.

Utilise bespoke OH software programme eOPAS data sets to analyse levels of services, quality of service and improve service development
