Junior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine (Trust Grade SHO)
Are you looking for experience in Emergency Medicine?
These SHO level posts are ideal for those looking to experience EM for the first time. We can also support those with some EM experience but looking for more, including the potential to support future applications to our popular CESR programme.
We have a a track record of supporting IMGs entering the NHS for the first time and supporting doctors post foundation programme who are looking for some time out between training posts. We have written a specific 'curriculum' for your time with us and this includes clear objectives to achieve. If completed this will fulfil the evidence needed for a CREST form. We also offer funding for 1 life support course per year.
Our rota is written to provide you with flexibility and quality of life, our standard rota is 40hrs per week and is currently self rostered.
Main duties of the job
You will be working a full shift pattern on the junior tier of the EM rota, including nights and weekends.
The role involves the assessment and management of undifferentiated adults and children presenting to the ED.
With senior support you will manage patients and make appropriate referrals or discharges.
There is also scheduled non-clinical time to attend teaching, undertake Qi and governance activities.

Job responsibilities
The ED has 24/7 middle grade clinical cover with two or more senior doctors present at all times. There is extended consultant cover from 08:00 23:00 weekdays, and flexibly 10:00-22:00Hrs weekends & bank holidays.
Post-holders in this grade participate in the junior doctor rota, and as such direct senior supervision is always available. Duties within the Emergency Department will cover the whole range of clinical responsibility for adults and children with emergency problems from minor injuries to major trauma, and minor illnesses through to the critically unwell. You will also be responsible for any patients you admit to our Emergency Observation (Short stay) Ward.
The post holder will be expected to prioritise and time-manage effectively according to the activity of the department and to utilise appropriately the available senior staff for advice.
We would encourage the post holder to complete workplace based assessments to allow documentation of their own development and mapping of competencies achieved in line with RCEM curriculum.
Education is an important part of the role. The successful applicant will be expected to receive and deliver teaching. The post holder will receive consultant supervision and have a named consultant supervisor, and may be involved in supporting the training of other staff: medical; nursing; para-medical at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
