Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a full time Gynaecology Lead Specialised Nurse Sonographer post at Northampton General Hospital to join our Gynaecology Emergency Assessment Clinic/Gynae SDEC service.

The department provides a high quality service where you will be Leading the Nursing team and the Gynae emergency service. You will be working closely with the Lead Consultant, you will undertake Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy scanning to provide a Nurse Led service for women experiencing emergency gynaecology and early pregnancy problems.

Main duties of the job

This service is a Nurse Led service with decision making being an essential requirement

This post would require leading the nursing team and the Gynae Emergency service . This role would be supporting the Trust's strategy towards Same Day Emergency Care in this specialist area.

You will work within established quality standards of practice, adhering to Ultrasound Guidelines such as BMUS< RCOG and NICE guidelines for clinical excellence.

Demonstrate clinical excellence in nursing with particular expertise in emergency gynaecology care and early pregnancy care.

To manage and provide care for women in the process of medical and surgical treatment of Ectopic pregnancy and Termination of pregnancy for fetal abnormality.

To carry out venepuncture, cannulation, administration of injections and drugs for medical management of ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage eg Mifepristone, Misoprostol and Methotrexate.

Act as an effective role model in the demonstration of high standards of practice based on current and scientific base knowledge.

The service is a Nurse Led service with decision making an essential requirement with the opportunity to refer into medical Gynaecology service as needed

Demonstrate clinical excellence in nursing with particular expertise in emergency gynaecology care and early pregnancy care.

Managing the nursing team within this service

Thispost will be supporting the Trusts strategy towards Same Day Emergency Care in this specialist area.

You will work within established quality standards of practice, adhering to Ultrasound Guidelines such as BMUS< RCOG and NICE guidelines for clinical excellence.

To manage and provide care for women in the process of medical and surgical treatment of Ectopic pregnancy and Termination of pregnancy for fetal abnormality.

To carry out venepuncture, cannulation, administration of injections and drugs for medical management of ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage eg Mifepristone, Misoprostol and Methotrexate

To assess capacity, gain valid informed consent and have ability to work within the legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent for treatment

To be willing and open to assist in the development of new procedures and gynaecological services offered in the unit.

Contribute to the unit philosophy in promoting an integrated approach to service

The post holder will oversee the day to day workload, assisting colleagues as required, ensuring staff and resources allocated to the area or modality are managed effectively. You will promote patient advocacy and communicate effectively with other health care professionals

To ensure collaborative working between Care Groups and sonographic modalities communicating in a professional, concise, accurate and detailed manner

To engage in the breaking of bad news with effective communication and counselling

Communication to the referring clinician and on call emergency team. To offer advice and support to all patients and relatives with early pregnancy loss. Contribute as counsellor and advisor on early pregnancy care to other areas within the trust.

To assess the clinical justification for ultrasound referrals in line with both national regulations and local protocols. To book appointments evaluating clinical information to determine degree of urgency. To provide reports and fast response delivery of results to GP, Outpatient Clinics & Ward.

To carry out comprehensive assessments demonstrating skills while working independently on a wide range of patients/clients of varied ages, level of ability, communication barriers ethnic backgrounds and social status.

Be responsible for the identification and investigation of risks and incidents, and ensure that these are managed according to Trust Policy

Ensure maintenance of nursing records in accordance with current guidelines

Facilitate and participate in clinical audit within the unit.

Ensure promotion of wellbeing, safety and interests of patients, staff and visitors to clinical area

To be responsible for the care of equipment and accessories in the section in which the post holder is working and ensure that equipment used is cleaned, and kept in good order.
