Job summary

The post holder will proactively work within the Main Theatre Admission Unit and Day Surgery Ward/Recovery 2 and being an active member of the Trust wide and Recovery 2 Team. They will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm to help create a safe patient and an effective learning environment. This post will demand a commitment to providing flexible shift cover and out of hours working on a regular basis.

Main duties of the job

Participate as an active member of the nursing team, accountable for your practice.

Demonstrate a good knowledge base of surgical conditions and the treatment required, using evidence on which to base practice.

Support the team in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care of patients attending the department in accordance with Trust and directorate pathways

Ensure that the care given reflects the hospital and departmental philosophies, standards and protocols.

Will be responsible for their own actions and be bound by the NMC's Code of Professional conduct and all approved Trust policies.

Will maintain own skills and knowledge and demonstrate clinical excellence and high standards of practice to other staff.

Be responsible for their own development, maintaining a professional portfolio and keeping themselves updated on current nursing issues.

Supporting Clinical Excellence

Participates as an active member of the nursing team, accountable for your practice and role modelling the highest standards of care to all members of the team

Demonstrate a good knowledge base of surgical conditions and the treatment required, using evidence on which to base practice.

Demonstrate competence in expanded roles, in accordance with the expanded practice policy.

Communicates proactively with all staff on the clinical condition and treatment plan of patients and ensures accurate clinic nursing records are maintained by all staff.

Liaise with and provide relevant information to other members of the multi-disciplinary team, promoting positive working relationships.

Supporting the team in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care of patients admitted to the ward, in accordance with Trust and directorate pathways

Actively involves others in communications between patients, their relatives and the multi-disciplinary team, both within organisation and with external stakeholders, to ensure excellent communication.

Has knowledge of infection control policies, with practical experience and principles in relation to the clinical environment; patient care; the prevention of cross infection; Covid guidelines; good hand hygiene and environmental cleaning within the department.

Responsible for safe supply, storage, administration, checking and disposal of medications, including controlled drugs, in line with Trust Policy and Nursing Midwifery Council standards

Be aware of the need for confidentiality both within the written and spoken word and always ensure correct storage of patients records, to comply with Information Governance regulations

To be a visible, accessible and assertive figure to whom staff, patients and relatives can turn for assistance and guidance.

Maintain complete and accurate patient records via Nerve Centre, ensuring that they provide a detailed account of all care provided throughout the patients stay.

Ensure mandatory and role specific training is maintained as per Trust standards
