Job summary

We're looking for an accredited or developing Clinical Vascular Scientist to join our friendly, expanding Vascular Studies Unit.

Our team provides a full range of non-invasive vascular investigations across clinics in the county -- helping diagnose and manage patients with circulatory disorders.

This role offers an opportunity todevelop your career, take on a varied clinical workload, and contribute to the growth of a county-wide vascular service. You'll be supported to participate in audit and service development, with excellent opportunities for professional progression.

We welcome applications from Experienced Accredited Vascular Scientists and from those working towards CSVS accreditation -- with a developing Band 6 role available for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a member of the Vascular Studies Unit team helping to deliver a high-quality county wide Northamptonshire Vascular Diagnostic Service, maximising patient care and safety at all times.

Will autonomously perform, interpret and report specialised vascular ultrasound examinations and blood flow measurements to the Trust county wide, in order to aid diagnosis of patients with suspected circulatory disorders.

Will continually develop knowledge and practice in the field of Vascular Technology and undertake clinical supervision of others in their training.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Autonomously perform highly complex Duplex scanning of the peripheral vasculature involving B-mode and colour imaging with spectral Doppler assessment, which requires extremely high levels of continual concentration and highly developed levels of dexterity, hand eye co-ordination and sensory skills.

To perform independently a variety of other non-invasive physiological pressure measurements.

Required on a daily basis to answer questions and provide reassurance to patients and relatives relating to the tests performed, and where appropriate in a sensitive and professional manner discuss the outcomes of the investigation, i.e. DVT and other circulatory abnormalities.

To adjust and tailor the scope of the investigation depending on the patients symptoms and/or pathology found during the course of the investigation.

To use professional judgement on the appropriateness of the patient request to provide a diagnosis.

To use expert level of experience and knowledge to analyse, interpret findings and compile accurate written, verbal and computerised reports autonomously on clinical investigations.Accountable for interpretation and accuracy of own reports.

Show ability to make evidence based judgement, sometimes in high pressure situations that have a direct impact on patient care and surgical treatment.

To use professional judgement to act independently upon the result of an investigation and advise clinicians and other healthcare professionals in other departments, as results directly relate to subsequent management decisions.

To advise clinicians of any limitations that may affect the accuracy of the requested investigation, the findings of the investigation and the potential implications of these findings and where appropriate, recommend alternative diagnostic imaging techniques or modalities.

To minimise potential risks that may be associated with ultrasound by adhering to the ALARA principle, minimising exposure, power outputs and justifying methods used.

To minimise the risk of cross infection in accordance with the Infection Control Policy due to the daily exposure to bodily fluids/odours which involves direct contact with open wounds or gangrenous, infected or ulcerated extremities.
