Job summary
The successful candidate will complement and support the existing Consultant Dermatologists, medical and nursing staff for the population of South Northamptonshire.
The Dermatology Department provides a comprehensive range of Dermatology services to in-patients and outpatients. The Department is staffed by three consultant Dermatologists and a Locum Consultant, an Associate Specialist doctor, a Specialty doctor, a Specialist Registrar, a Clinical Fellow, a CT 1/2 and two Clinical Assistants. Successful candidates will have built-in sessions to attend monthly Clinical meetings at Oxford.
The department has an integrated Consultant and Nurse-led Dermatology Unit, providing improved facilities on one site. There are no dedicated dermatology beds but there is ready access to the beds on the general medical wards.
A clinical Genetics service is available on site provided by a Consultant Clinical Geneticist (Dr Carmichael).
We also have insourcing company providing weekend services covering clinics and procedures to provide extra capacities. In addition, the Maxillo-facial Unit provides help and support for patients with head and neck skin tumours. A skin cancer MDT is held weekly.

Main duties of the job
The appointed candidate will be able to work with a distant supervision, and to support the existing dermatology team to provide general dermatological services to Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. This includes carrying out outpatient clinics, supporting trainee doctors in the department and nursing staff and seeing patients on the ward. There is no commitment to the on-call general medical services.
The Trust aspires to become a DGH (+) and this involves the teaching of medical students (currently from Leicester and from Oxford). The job plan reflects the emphasis that the Trust places on education, both of undergraduates and postgraduates and the successful candidate would be required to take an active part in education.
