Job summary

The Divisional Practice Development team have a rare and exciting opportunity for you to join us as a substantive member of our team. We are looking for a nurse who has experience of supporting clinical staff from healthcare support workers to registered nurses in the clinical environment.

If you have a passion for teaching and excellent clinical and communication skills, this could be the perfect fit for you. You will be part of an established, experienced Professional & Practice Development Team that responds positively and professionally to change. Knowledge and experience of medical, surgical, and orthopaedic nursing is preferred, as we support all wards Trust wide.

The Practice Development team will support you to grow and develop both personally and professionally. We can offer personal professional development, academic support, clinical supervision and one to one coaching to enhance and upskill your knowledge and competence.

Main duties of the job

Professional Leadership

In conjunction with the Band 7 Practice Development Nurse support the promotion of collaborative working partnerships and effective communication between all members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Visibility in the clinical workplace to ensure professional and clinical standards are maintained and spontaneous idea sharing is encouraged in practice

Act as a supportive role model, demonstrating the provision of nursing care in line with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) codes of practice

In conjunction with the Band 7 Practice Development Nurse support the development and implementation of the Nursing, Midwifery and AHP strategy

In conjunction with the Band 7 Practice Development Nurse support the plans for future redesignation with the ANCC for Pathway to Excellence

Organisational & Management responsibilities

In conjunction with the Band 7 Practice Development Nurse support development needs and work in clinical practice to ensure these are met to enable a workforce fit for the future

In conjunction with the ward managers, and the Band 7 Practice Development Nurse, help to identify individual development needs and work in clinical practice to support that these are met

Effectively manage own time to ensure a balance between clinical and administrative duties

Job responsibilities

Support the promotion and maintenance of a departmental culture which promotes an open and honest approach to professional decision making and problem solving

Promote and maintain organisational and professional standards

Contribute to the quarterly Practice Development report to the Directorate Governance Group

Work with the Band 7 Practice Development Nurse to ensure compliance with local and National standards

Provide advice to promote clinical audit and quality improvement

Support the mandatory training agenda

Guide practice by working alongside all Trust clinical registered and unregistered staff with their development needs as required/ identified in the clinical environment to improve patient care outcomes and patient experience

Support the Band 7 Practice Development Nurse by actively participating in PD Education meetings within the wider Trust and external partners

Contribute to multi-professional and inter- professional training and education

Utilise information from incidents and complaints to inform practice/educational programmes

Undertake relevant clinical practices in accordance with the Scope of Professional Practice being a role model for best possible standards

Proactively contribute to implementation of care pathways and guidelines ensuring compliance with local standards can be demonstrated

Take all possible action to minimise clinical risk to patients, utilising all available resources

Where issues of clinical competence are identified, work with the Practice Development Leads and the ward managers to develop a plan and provide support in the clinical areaby working alongside them in the clinical area to identify areas for improvement

Provide accurate and objective verbal and written reports in relation to activity

Support the Practice Development lead/support for specialist practice and forumsService development implementation

Support transformational change management for nursing & midwifery

Work alongside the Band 7 Practice Development Nurse and Medical directorate examining the requirements from a PD perspective around service development &/or changes

In conjunction with Ward Managers and Band 7 Practice Development Nurse support staff development in line with their Appraisals/Personal Development Plans

To support change processes within nursing & midwifery

Work collaboratively with the group model framework

Support the Lead Practice Development Nurse in developments in education as being part of University Hospitals Northamptonshire
