Job summary

Be an integral part of the Pharmacy Team developing Aseptic Services for the patients and staff of this Trust and other local healthcare providers.

Participate in the provision of aseptically prepared intravenous medicines using technical skills, including final check and release of aseptically prepared products.

Ensure the efficient management and maintenance of inventory within the aseptic services unit of the pharmacy.

Main duties of the job

Assist in the provision of aseptically prepared pharmaceuticals (batches and patient specific).

Lead on inventory maintenance

Lead on stock co-ordination within aseptic service

Perform other tasks necessary to ensure that ASU operates in an appropriate and efficient manner

Job description

Job responsibilities

Assist in the provision of aseptically prepared pharmaceuticals (batches and patient specific). This will include the following tasks, all performed accurately and following SOPs:

Co-ordinate the day to day workload, ensuring items are manufactured in a timely manner and colleagues are supported.

Follow good manufacturing practice (GMP) at all times.

Generate worksheets and labels, ensuring medicines are charged correctly using the pharmacy computer system.

In-process check worksheets and labels, ensuring medicines are charged correctly.

Assemble drugs, diluents and consumables prior to aseptic dispensing.

Participate in in-process checks of drugs, diluents and consumables prior to aseptic dispensing.

Assist with decontamination of products from the support room & cleanroom prior to preparation (spraying and wiping).

Check /prepare the isolators are ready for use before each session.

Aseptically dispense injections and infusions within the appropriate work zone.

In-process volume check injections and infusions.

Final pack and label prepared items and pass them to the final checking stage.

Dispense batched products, including product selection, labelling and packaging, including parental nutrition.

Order and dispense outsourced patient specific items, including parental nutrition.

Be registered as a named person on the Intrathecal Chemotherapy register, in order to complete the above tasks for Intrathecal drugs.

Final check and release dispensed patient specific aseptic items.

Final check dispensed parental nutrition or other aseptic items manufactured by external suppliers.

Final check batched aseptic items & take these to QA for release.

Only complete the above tasks if validations and competencies have been completed and authorised, and to keep all validations and competencies for the above tasks in date.

Seek advice from senior colleagues where needed.

Lead on inventory maintenance. This will include the following tasks:

Monitor and maintain stock reorder levels to ensure adequate supply of pharmaceutical products.

Segregate, organize and maintain stock locations to comply with storage requirements and regulations.

Monitoring and coordinate the usage or resale of stock close to expiration dates to minimize waste.

Lead on stock co-ordination within aseptic services. This will include the following tasks:

Monitor and communicate to ASU management and team potential supply issues so that contingencies can be considered.

Liaising with stores/QA on the resolution of supply issues to help ensure continued supply of products for treatment to patients.

Assist in coordinating product brand switches to ensure smooth transitions.

Work closely with the sustainability technician in ASU to reduce wastage.

Ensure stock levels are appropriate for production of batches.
