Specialist Clinical Pharmacist - Elective Surgical Pathway
Northampton General Hospital
This job is now closed
Job summary
This is an exciting time to join our Elective Surgical Admissions team as we roll out Dedicated Ward Pharmacy (DWP) across the whole trust. Your focus will be contributing to elective patient care during their pre-operative journey both in the pre-operative assessment clinic (POAC) and in our Main Theatres Admission Unit (MTAU) where we have an established pharmacist and MMT team. You will be fully supported by our Advanced Pharmacists for MTAU and POAC.
Main duties of the job
You will be part of a pharmacy team that is responsible for the pharmaceutical care of our elective patients throughout their whole perioperative journey. From reviewing patients in POAC, where you will liaise with anaesthetists, surgeons, and other MDT members to optimise pharmaceutical management, to assessing patients in MTAU on the day of surgery and then following up patients on our surgical wards.
You will be working within our established surgical pharmacy team. There will be opportunities for working on all the surgical wards and our new Critical Care unit. You will be responsible for providing pharmacy support to one of surgical directorates. You may attend consultant led ward rounds, including our Acute Pain Team and Nutrition Team as well as other areas within the surgical division which will provide plenty of opportunities for learning and CPD.
This role extends to providing advice and educating medical and nursing staff, as well as contributing to the development and implementation of medicines management policies and procedures.
You will also be fully supported and encouraged in developing your clinical qualifications further including independent prescribing if required. This is a full-time post but substantially part-time may be considered.
If you do not meet all the essential criteria for the band 7 post, in some circumstances we may be able to offer a band 6 to 7 progression.
