Job summary
The primary focus of the Learning Disability and Autism Liaison Nurse is to work without direct supervision to provide expert advice and support to a variety of staff on complex decisions around learning disability and autism. Identify barriers to accessing healthcare for people with a learning disability and reasonable adjustments are in place to ensure equality of access. In addition, the post holder will work within the general safeguarding team and delver training to a wide variety of professional staff groups. This includes day-to-day management of the Learning Disability Project Worker.The post holder will have significant experience in relation to learning disabilities and have knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Care Act2014, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards 2009/ Liberty Protection Safeguards. The post holder will contribute tothe Safeguarding Team's ability to ensure that the Trust's statutory responsibilities are compiled and monitored.
Main duties of the job
A high degree of effective communication, liaison and networking is required to maintain good working relationships within the Trust and external partners such as the community learning disability team and adult social care. In addition, the post holder as lead specialist must be able tochallenge poor practice, influence and negotiate with health and external partners to improve standards and reduce the risk the likelihood ofdiscriminatory practice.
The post holder will also use a variety of advanced communication skills to engage with patients with learning disabilities and autism and theirfamilies and/or carers. This will role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culturewithin the Trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style that a) engages, enables and empowers others b) uses coaching topromote ownership of learning and quality improvement and c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams departments and acrossorganisational boundaries
