Job summary

The Radiopharmacy Department in Northampton General Hospital is looking to recruit a Radiopharmacy Assistant Technician.

We mainly produce diagnostic Radiopharmaceuticals for Northampton General Hospital and other local departments, which will be the focus of the work for this role. The Radiopharmacy also runs a blood labelling service and is involved in therapies within the hospital.

We are a small, dedicated and friendly team that are looking for a bright and motivated individual to help us do this.

Full training in the role will be provided.

The service starts at 6am, which may be brought forward by 30mins if new customers join and require this.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities are:

To undertake, after suitable training, the aseptic preparation and dispensing of Radiopharmaceutical products following the departments SOPs. These products are for customer with Northampton General Hospital, as well as external organisations.

To prepare documentation and labels using the available computer systems and master documents for the preparation of all products.

To undertake transfer disinfection into the aseptic room and isolators as required. To participate in the validation program for this activity

Job description

Job responsibilities

To operate in the day-to-day operation of the Radiopharmacy Service to ensure that prepared Radiopharmaceuticals are made in a safe, timely and efficient way in line with the current MHRA standards.

Carry out aseptic sessions of the preparation and dispensing of sterile diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals; working within agreed departmental protocols, with senior staff.

To prepare documentation and labels using the available computer systems and master documents for the preparation of all products.

To undertake the washing and processing of containers prior to manufacturing.

To collect and assemble raw materials according to worksheets and fill in all the relevant details required by the worksheet.

To maintain raw material stock and consumable levels and to be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the raw material store rooms.

To follow all relevant validation procedures to ensure on going personnel andequipment accreditation

To undertake monitoring of facilities and equipment.

To inspect, label and pack products to ensure they are ready for final check.

To transfer finished products to areas defined in protocols for the products prior to release.

To undertake the correct filing and processing of all documentation.

To ensure the correct use of equipment by following the procedures for use, cleaning and monitoring of such equipment.

To undertake sessional environmental monitoring following the procedures laid down between the production area and quality control.

To be responsible for ensuring all clean room clothing is processed correctly and in a timely way. To ensure the clothing is packaged up, left for collection and picked up.

To undertake transfer disinfection into the aseptic room and isolators as required. To participate in the validation program for this activity

To assist in the maintenance and cleaning of the unit as required and help in maintaining the general tidiness of the unit, including specialist cleaning of the clean rooms

To carry out protocolled QA checks throughout the manufacturing process including Radiochemical purity (RCP), Radionuclide purity, chemical breakthrough, process validations etc and advise senior staff of any out of limit results.

Assist in the development and validation of new techniques implemented within the unit

Receiving, handling and manipulating blood samples as part of Nuclear Medicine diagnostic tests; within local protocols.
