Job summary
Applications are warmly invited for a substantive consultant as part of the expansion of our University Hospitals of Northamptonshire Orthodontic Service. You will join our established, but dynamic, consultant orthodontic team in Kettering, and also work with Maxillofacial colleagues and laboratory colleagues, treating patients across hospital sites in Northampton.
As part of the Orthodontic Team you will be supported in all aspects of the role, but you will also support, coach and impart your knowledge and experience to your team. The department has close teaching and training links to the East Midlands Deanery for DCTs, and has orthodontic speciality trainees working within the team, as well as therapists and laboratory colleagues at both sites.
Main duties of the job
The Orthodontic Department provides a full range of orthodontic services to patients in the Northamptonshire area, including the treatment of orthognathic patients and patients with hypodontia and impacted teeth. Multi-disciplinary clinics are held within the department with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Consultant Restorative Dentist from the Glenfield hospital in Leicester.
There are two well-equipped surgeries allocated to Orthodontics, with a further four surgeries shared with OMFS. The department has its own radiographic and Cone Beam CT facilities, and all surgeries have computer terminals for viewing of digital radiographs on the PAX system. The department uses Dolphin imaging software for dento-facial imaging. The orthodontics/OMFS laboratory is sited within the department, which includes a 3-D printer and imaging software suite.
Our proximity to London and Birmingham supports teaching, enabling us to regularly attend and host national study meetings and supports the training of London Orthodontic StR.
About us
NGH is one of the largest employers in the area and all of our divisions are committed to doing things better, with more efficiency as we update, modernise, and advance. We have also entered into a Group Model with neighbouring Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Being a large DGH with a proud history, we are big enough to get interesting cases, but small enough to care, coach and develop. With over 200 consultants, a similar number of trainees and approximately 60medical undergraduates throughout the year, NGH provides comprehensive care and extensive training opportunities.
With this in mind, we have built a state of the art emergency assessment unit (Nye Bevan building) and are developing new ways of working to streamline in-patient care and optimize working with our partners.
NGH also has a large library, gym with swimming pool, and a brand new entrance with Marks and Spencer, Subway and Costa on site.
