Specialist Stroke Band 6 Occupational Therapist
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Inpatient Stroke Therapy Team at Northampton General Hospital to cover a maternity position for 12 months.
Applicants should be a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy and the Health Professions Council. They should have experience of neurological Occupational Therapy ideally in relation to stroke rehabilitation. Appropriate CPD activity and post grad courses are essential.
Applicants should display a thorough understanding of neurological assessment, treatment techniques and their application. To continue the post holders' development there are excellent CPD opportunities available.
Applicants will be expected to participate in audit projects and must also demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting the training of colleagues and MDT members, as well as support and development of undergraduate Occupational Therapists. Applicants will be encouraged to be innovative with ideas for continued service development.

Main duties of the job
- To provide specialist Occupational Therapy to stroke patients across a 7 day servic
- To be responsible for management of own caseload and provide a high-quality efficient service to stroke patients throughout the hospital, managing attendance of board rounds and ward meetings to contribute significantly to patient flow supported by experienced band 7 therapists
- To assess stroke patients with cognitive impairments and develop treatment plans. This will include supporting the wider MDT in the delivery of treatment plans.
- To continually develop your knowledge and practice to provide patient focussed care that is evidence based, sharing this with colleagues and the wider MDT where appropriate.
- To clinically supervise and guide the professional work of less experienced therapy staff and students as appropriate, while complying with professional and departmental standards of practice
- Contribute to the support of staff and students from other professions.
- To be an integral member of the Stroke Therapy Team, contributing to the management of the staff and service, with regard for all aspects of clinical governance, and to deputise for senior staff as required.
- To work closely with Physiotherapy colleagues to provide joint therapies assessments and treatment plans enabling efficient use of Therapies Team resources
- Support to band 7 and 8 Therapy colleagues in the day-to-day running of the team including staff appraisals, clinical projects, benchmarking and teaching.
