Job summary
The Pathology Department at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust currently has vacancy for an enthusiastic, innovative, quality driven, qualified Biomedical Scientist to work in a dynamic Biochemistry department. Our modern and well-equipped department processes more than 6 million diagnostic tests per annum on state of the art analytical platforms.
Applications are invited from applicants who are suitably qualified and have HCPC registration. Applications will also be considered from candidates with an Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) accredited Biomedical Sciences degree who are yet to attain HCPC registration. The Biochemistry department is an IBMS accredited training laboratory which has state of the art pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical automated systems.
Commitment to the provision of a 24/7service is a necessary requirement for this post and the successful applicant will be expected to fully participate in the out-of-hours system once trained.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a team of Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners, and Clinical Scientists delivering a high-quality Pathology service 24/7 based on the effective use of the Quality Management System.
The post holder will undertake laboratory investigations as appropriate to their banding and competencies. They will undertake their duties without direct supervision under the guidance of a Senior Biomedical Scientist. At other times the post holder will perform tasks without supervision and will evaluate situations and seek advice from senior members of staff if deemed appropriate.
Commit to formally maintaining their skills and knowledge by appropriate training and self-education, thus allowing them to apply skills to the latest techniques and complex procedures.
The post holder will take part in the 24/7 shift roster after initial training.
