Job summary
It is essential that the post-holder is on the GMC register at the start date of the employment.
The role involves shifts within normal hours (08.30- 5pm) and out of hours including night, weekends and bank holidays. The successful candidate will be expected to work on a full shift rota. This ensures 24hour cover for the neonatal unit and paediatric wards. The rota is EWTD compliant. After 4pm, there are three ST 1-3 trainees, each covering neonatal, paediatric assessment and general paediatric areas. During the weekends there are two ST 1-3 trainees working on the long day shift. There will also be an additional trainee over the weekend to support postnatal ward and Paediatric admissions unit activities.
This post will be for 6-12 months. During this period, it is anticipated that the post holder will work across the general paediatric, neonatal and post-natal wards.
Main duties of the job
Teaching Activities

All our junior doctors have a named clinical/educational supervisor.
There is a rolling programme of teaching with regular lunchtime teaching. There is a weekly clinical meeting (Friday afternoon), and X-ray meeting (Monday morning). Teaching is also available for postgraduate examinations, e.g. MRCP, DCH. The postgraduate medical centre has a well-stocked library, a computer terminal for Medline searches and CD databases. The computer terminals are also available within the Department.
The trainee is expected to play a full part in the active department training programme for other doctors and also assist in the education of clinical students from Oxford and other medical schools. There is a regular teaching programme for ST trainees.
The RCPCH College Tutor, who is responsible for all educational matters within the department, is Dr Jayaseelan.
Audit
The department has an active audit programme and Dr Hlaing is the lead co-ordinator for audit. It may be possible to develop some experience of audit during the post.
Additional Duty Hours
The duty rota is paid at Band 1A.
