Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Counsellor for the Womens services at Northampton General Hospital.

The successful candidate will be required to be a member of BACP.

The post will involve assessment and counselling for patients experiencing obstetric or gynaecological issues

Main duties of the job

Dealing with highly complex issues sensitively and appropriately, occasionally in hostile and aggressive situations

Required to show empathy and respect, giving reassurance and focussed attention to patient issues.

Assessing issues and needs of clients and drawing on medical professionals at all levels, or other agencies (with client permission), particularly in conflict resolution, eg. domestic violence, rape, child protection issues.

Good listening skills, analytical thinking, balanced with intuition, using emotional intelligence.

Communicating with all staff members.

Managing care, providing therapeutic counselling and meeting client needs, eg. infertility, trauma, panic attacks, body image.

Assessing appropriate care, eg. CMHT, medical interventions.

To provide accurate and timely reports to contribute to the effective running and monitoring of the service

Provide 1-1 support work and counselling as required.

Attend Multi-agency meetings as required

Provide support within the administration team during absence and follow relevant organisational policies such as notification of sickness absence.

Updating client notes.

Maintaining confidentiality of counselling notes
