Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, endoscopy experienced , passionate nurse leader to join our busy Endoscopy Unit as the Unit Sister.

The endoscopy unit is a busy department with a highly qualified team.

The department undertakes approximately 10,000 cases a year for both inpatients and outpatients. We havethree procedures rooms, an11 bedded recovery area, a secondary recovery area, decontamination room and bowel preparation room.

The endoscopy unit offers a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for inpatients and outpatients. It is alsoa bowel cancer screening centre.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will ensure that high quality nursing care is delivered Endoscopy within University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (working between Northampton General Hospital and Danetre Hospital).

The postholder will provide communication and leadership to both nursing and the multi-disciplinary team providing day-to-day line management of the team. Act as an expert practitioner maintaining multi-disciplinary operational policies, training packages and competencies for staff, teaching and supervise all grades of staff within the unit.

The post holder will have ongoing responsibility for the operational effectiveness of their designated clinical area, being present in their clinical area, in conjunction with the Matron.

The post holder will have specialist knowledge of endoscopy acquired to run a safe clinical area.

The post holder will have a balance of practice and management within endoscopy day to day.

Ensure standards of clinical competencies within assessment are developed and evidence of ongoing clinical competency is adhered to.

Ensure nursing care is patient focused and that patient dignity and privacy are maintained at all times.

Ensure staff work to towards trust values for patients and colleagues and that equal opportunities are practiced.

Maintain effective communication with the department.

Ensure all complaints are listened to and issues identified are addressed and resolving all complaints and communicating to the staff.

Ensure that prescribed medications are safely stored and administered and to monitor, report and investigate all medications errors.
