Job summary
To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of conduct and to be responsible for the safe, effective and compassionate nursing care for all patients and their relatives and carers, ensuring the smooth day to day running of the Eye Casualty Department.
To always act as a role model and support the senior team members to ensure organisational goals and objectives are met within the department.
Main duties of the job
Telephone triage patients with ophthalmic emergencies and make decisions about the most suitable pathway for that patient.
Examine, diagnose and treat a cohort of patients in the Urgent and RAC with anterior segment eye emergencies.
Supervise, assess and provide support to junior/new staff and student nurses.
When taking charge in the absence of the eye casualty sister is directly responsible for ensuring the smooth day to day running of the Eye Casualty Department.
