Start Your Emergency Care Nursing Career at UHN

University Hospitals Northamptonshire (UHN) delivers emergency care services across Northampton General Hospital and Kettering General Hospital. We are seeking motivated, compassionate and enthusiastic Registered Nurses (Band 5) who are committed to developing their practice within Emergency Care. This is a single recruitment advert; however, all posts are hospital specific. Applicants may express a preference for NGH or KGH during the application process.

Main duties of the job

Emergency Care within the NHS is fast paced, acute and constantly evolving. Our Emergency Departments care for patients presenting with a wide range of urgent and emergency conditions, requiring developing sound nursing assessment and care skills, effective communication and a commitment to high-quality, person-centred care.

As a Registered Nurse, you will work as part of the multidisciplinary team and be supported to develop competence and confidence across emergency care settings, including:

  • Initial Assessment and Triage(working towards)
  • Emergency Department Majors
  • Resuscitation and Trauma(working towards)
  • Emergency Department Minors
  • Continuing Care Areas

You will contribute to the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate emergency care, while developing the skills required to support patient flow and clinical priorities.

  • Develop emergency care nursing knowledge and clinical skills across a range of areas
  • Work towards emergency care competencies in line with role expectations
  • Build confidence in clinical decision-making and prioritisation
  • Begin to develop leadership skills, including acting as a role model for junior colleagues and students
  • Contribute to quality improvement, safety initiatives and service development

Desirable

  • RCN Emergency Care Competencies - Level 1 or equivalent experience

Knowledge and Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of working in an acute area of nursing relevant to emergency and urgent care within the NHS. This may be through employment or student placement
  • Minimum of 6 months post-registration experience
  • Evidence of nursing CPD
  • Resuscitation qualification, RCUK aligned
