The Breast Unit is seeking a dedicated Administrative and Clerical Assistant to join the team at Kettering General Hospital to provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support within the Breast Unit, assisting the Breast Care Nurses in delivering a high-quality, patient-centred service. The postholder will be responsible for a range of administration tasks.

You will need to be hard-working, efficient, and able to prioritise a busy workload. Strong IT skills are essential, along with a friendly, approachable manner when supporting both staff and patients. The role requires professionalism, reliability, and a positive attitude within a compassionate and fast-paced clinical environment.

Main duties of the job

Work closely with the Breast Care Nursing Team, providing administrative and clerical support to ensure the smooth running of the service.

  • Triage and direct calls appropriately to the nursing team or wider multidisciplinary team.Manage the Breast Care Nurse telephone line, acting as the first point of contact for patients, relatives, and external callers.
  • Retrieve and respond to answerphone messages, ensuring queries from patients or relatives are handled promptly, sensitively, and within the boundaries of the role.
  • Act in a professional and compassionate manner, offering support to both patients and the Breast Care Nurses as required.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with nurses, doctors, administrative staff, and external services.
  • Use a range of IT systems competently, accurately documenting patient information and maintaining up-to-date records.
  • Coordinate patient appointment bookings, ensuring timely scheduling and clear communication with patients and clinical teams
  • Liaise with prosthesis services, assisting with coordination, communication, and ordering stock as required to support patient care.
  • Uphold confidentiality, compassion, and professionalism at all times.
