Job summary

Kettering General NHS Foundation Hospitals are seeking an experienced, motivated and dynamic clinical pharmacist with excellent communication and leadership skills to join our established, friendly clinical pharmacy team.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering clinical pharmacy services withinEmergency Care & Frailty pathways.

Main duties of the job

  • To operate as an Advanced Pharmacist in the Emergency Department and Admissions Unit.
  • To communicate highly complex information relating to medicines with clinicians, nurses, independent prescribers, carers and patients.
  • To develop and evaluate the delivery of a responsive, proactive, patient-focused Clinical Pharmacy Service to the Emergency Department
  • To be an active member of the multidisciplinary team and promote the safe, appropriate and clinically effective use of medicines.
  • To organise, provide and evaluate pharmaceutical services to the Emergency Department.
  • To lead the strategic planning of pharmaceutical projects relating to the Emergency Department, e.g. develop and maintain the EPMA system.
  • Facilitate achievement of clinical standards for 7-day pharmacy services.
  • To supervise and train pharmacy staff rotating through the clinical specialities within the Medicine and Urgent Care Group.
  • To play a lead role in promoting and developing the optimum use of medicines as per Primary and Secondary Care policies involving use of medicines.
  • To play a key role in ensuring continuity of pharmaceutical care on admission and transfer to acute admission wards, and to facilitate smooth and rapid admission and discharge.
  • To be responsible for advising areas regarding security of medicines and controlled stationery.
  • To contribute to the delivery of the Trust Medicines Optimisation Strategy.

  • Support the Lead Pharmacist for Medicine to manage the pharmacy clinical service across the Adult Medicine Division
  • Providing professional leadership and support for other pharmacy services as needed.

  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment to and enthusiasm for research, audit and education in the clinical area.

  • Postgraduate qualification in hospital Pharmacy

  • Registered Independent prescriber
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)

Knowledge / experience

Essential

  • 5 years post registration UK hospital experience
  • Clinical experience in a range of ward/clinical areas
  • Experience of leading or implementing change
  • Good clinical knowledge of commonly prescribed medicines
  • Good knowledge of NICE guidelines for common conditions
  • Good knowledge of the NHS and current priorities
