Education, Training & Qualifications

Essential

• Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CST) at time of interview
• MRCP or equivalent

Desirable

• Subspeciality accreditation in Hepatology / Nutrition
• Postgraduate qualification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

• Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CST in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine
• Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems within Gastroenterology and general medicine
• Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
• Provide evidence based clinical care
• Demonstrate JAG competencies for upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy

Desirable

• Five years supervised training in an appropriate StR equivalent training programme
• Demonstrate a high level of endoscopic performance data
• Ability to perform high level endoscopic therapeutics ie. EMR
• Advanced training in Hepatology/ Hepatobiliary/ Nutrition
• Experience in managing patients with complex nutritional needs
• Previous experience of participation in research projects

Management & Administrative Experience

Essential

• Ability to contribute to the efficient & smooth running of Gastroenterology departments.
• Ability to organise and manage out and inpatient priorities, investigations and treatment
• Experience of audit management
• Ability and willingness to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets
• Work within a performance managed environment

Desirable

• Previous experience in management/organisational posts
• Ability to manage and lead a sub-speciality in Gastroenterology

Teaching Experience

Essential

• Experience of supervising F1, F2, CTs, Specialty Registrars (STs)
• Ability to teach clinical skills
• Undertake portfolio appraisal of junior medical staff

Desirable

• Higher degree in medical education
• Train the trainer's qualification

Research Experience

Essential

• Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems

Desirable

• Publications in peer-reviewed journals
