Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Gastroenterology at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This offers the opportunity to join a cohesive and progressive Gastroenterology and Hepatology department which has an excellent track record in clinical service delivery, research, teaching & training.

Main duties of the job

  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of Gastrointestinal/Liver patients and uphold the principles of GIRFT.

  • To share with colleagues the responsibility for the day-to-day management of the patients on Digestive Disease Unit ward (Consultant of the week model)

  • Provide both diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy.

  • Focus on the delivery of core Gastroenterology services.

  • Subspeciality interest in Nutrition is desirable to support the existing team. Subspeciality interest in Hepatobilliary (ERCP / EUS) is desirable to support the existing team and develop an EUS service.

  • Participate in "GI bleed" oncall rota.

  • Teaching and training of junior medical staff, nurses, and medical students from the University of Leicester.

  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME), mandatory training and appraisal/revalidation.

  • Engage with and encourage research participation relevant to the special interest area of the post holder.

Essential

  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CST) at time of interview
  • MRCP or equivalent

Desirable

  • Subspeciality accreditation in Hepatology / Nutrition
  • Postgraduate qualification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CST in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems within Gastroenterology and general medicine
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Provide evidence based clinical care
  • Demonstrate JAG competencies for upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy

Desirable

  • Five years supervised training in an appropriate StR equivalent training programme
  • Demonstrate a high level of endoscopic performance data
