We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic & driven individual to join our fantastic award winning Rheumatology Team.
Applicants are invited to apply for the post of Rheumatology B6 Nurse.
The post will be based at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. In addition to Kettering, Peripheral Outreach Clinics are held at Irthlingborough and Corby. The post holder will be expected to work at some of the peripheral clinics.
The post-holder will join a friendly and dynamic Rheumatology Team. This job provides a valuable opportunity for a nurse planning to develop specialist skills in Rheumatology. The commitments include Out-Patient clinics, Telephone advice & helpline and monitoring of patients on DMARDS (Disease modifying agents).
Experience within Rheumatology would be desirable but not essential.
Main duties of the job
The nurse will work, in an outpatient setting, alongside the existing nurses, Rheumatology consultants and allied health professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be an integral part of the rheumatology team and enhance and expand the team to provide a seamless service for people with rheumatological disorders.
The post holder will act, at all times, in accordance with the NMC code and local standards of care and policies
The post holder will be responsible for monitoring and supporting patients with a variety of rheumatological disorders.

- To provide specialist advice and support through the telephone advice line
- To act as patient advocate to enable individuals to make informed decisions that may lead to choices being made with regards to treatment and management of their condition. This may include lifestyle changes and health promotion and referrals to appropriate services.
- To provide safe, accurate, comprehensive monitoring of patients receiving potentially hazardous treatments such as immunosuppressants, cytotoxic and biologic agents.
- To respond to adverse drug events and abnormal blood results, adjusting patients treatment plan according to operational policy.
- To support the provision of specialist advice to health professionals involved in the care of rheumatology patients.
- To maximize opportunities to improve nursing care and the environment in which care is delivered in the nurse led clinic.
- To assist in the development and implementation of robust policies, protocols, and procedures (nursing and medical) to enhance quality of care and management of patients with rheumatological disorders.
- To establish and maintain evidence based patient information resources, providing advice to patients and carers.
- To liaise with other MDT members to ensure effective co-ordination of care.
- To maintain a continuous high standard of evidence-based nursing care.
