An exciting opportunity has arisen at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for an IT Technical Support Specialist with an interest in Pathology.
Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is an ambitious provider of acute hospital services to a population of more than 300,000 people living across Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough and North Northamptonshire. With a new leadership team in place and strong staff engagement, the Trust is implementing its new and ambitious five year strategy to improve the digital infrastructure and software systems in use across the hospital site.
Main duties of the job
The primary purpose of the role is to provide IT projectsupport specifically to the Pathology department. Primarily this involves supporting the implementation of a new laboratory information system, Dedalus LIMS, but also several smaller pathology projects to include order communication systems and implementation of digital pathology. The post holder will be an integral member of the Pathology project team with full support from both the Trust ICT department and clinical pathology staff. The position will require good communication skills and an ability to work closely with both internal colleagues and external software suppliers.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring a systematic, disciplined, analytical and well documented approach to software configuration, testing and implementation, with innovative problem solving to ensure that agreed procedures and standards are met.

Job responsibilities
Principal Duties:1) Initiates and plans IM&T work programs, adjusting to meet service needs. Will help to plan and implement specialist projects that impact across clinical and nonclinical areas.2) Allocate and re-allocate tasks and assignments on a daily basis to meetorganisational requirements. Ensuring the project manager is updated regarding the progress and outcome of all allocated tasks.3) Be a primary technical resource for Pathology system upgrade and Order Communications and results processes. Maintain the existing GP systems (ICE) and develop, as required by the project team, the user experience for Medway Ordering and reports. Ensure synchronisation between Medway and ICE ordering processes.4) Responsible for expensive IT equipment and configuration, testing andinstallation software, maintenance of IM&T equipment. Asset tagging andrecording. Analyses user requirements which may require configuration/customising the hardware/software to individual user requirements incl. transfer of IT users data. Responsible for the proper and safe use of IT equipment by users. Trial/evaluate new systems, software, and hardware.5) Analyze, investigate and resolve complex IM&T queries/data queries and issues/problems e.g. Interpreting system errors and identifying an appropriate solution from a range of options; research complex IT faults via reference material (e.g. technical websites or documentation)6) To negotiate with Third Party suppliers and other members of IM&T staffeffectively to ensure completion of test plans for upgrades / new systems.7) Maintain computer systems, user IT accounts, computer hardware, Inputting and manipulating data, information into computer databases, clinical and non-clinical systems; use of fine tools when working on IM&T hardware.8) To provide assistance, advice, and fault diagnosis for users of Trust ITequipment, systems, and networks. Provide specialist technical advice to all users. Employ expertise to provide a full diagnostic service when fault finding.9) Provide a source of advice and expertise for users. Delivers training on a range of IT subjects to individual IT users on an ad-hoc basis.10)Works to achieve agreed objectives and has freedom to do this in own way, working within IM&T guidelines and policies; advises without reference to manager.11)Implement IM&T policies and procedures. Will work with project team to propose changes to and redesign of local IM&T policies and procedures that have an impact in clinical and non-clinical areas. E.g. Development of protocols for new / changed systems.12)Communicate, train, and demonstrate systems to both individuals and small groups, in order to help users maximize the benefits of Trust IT systems.
