Job summary

Applications are welcomed for an enthusiastic & motivated Trust Grade Registrar with NHS hospital experience to join our friendly Paediatrics Team. Successful candidates should be available to start as soon as possible.

The doctor will ideally have previous experience of General and Neonatal Paediatrics, as they will participate in the fully compliant SpR rota, rotating through the neonatal unit, general paediatric ward and paediatric outpatient clinics . On call cover includes nights. The candidate will be well supported by Consultants and other Registrars in the department.

Main duties of the job

The post is for one year, in the first instance, extendable further as required. The job plan will entail a commitment of 40 hours per week shifts including on-call; nights and weekends.

Kettering General Hospital NHS Trust is an Acute District Hospital providing a service to approximately 340,000 people with 600 beds. We have a modern well-equipped SCBU/NICU (Level two) , a bespoke paediatric patient facility and a wide range of outpatient services. There are also excellent links with the Community Paediatric Service.

Evenings and nights are covered by one ST4-8 though a second ST4-8 is now rostered. During the working day, separate SHO covers Skylark, PAU, NICU and labour ward /postnatal wards. In the evening, separate SHO covers Skylark and PAU, with one SHO covering NICU / labour ward. At night, one SHO each covers Skylark and NICU/labour ward.

Junior Doctors rotas are EWTD compliant.

The Consultants operate a Paediatrician of the week rota for the Children's wards. Following the weekend on-call commencing Friday 1 pm, all general paediatric and neonatal admissions are admitted under the duty paediatrician. The Paediatrician of the week is responsible for the emergency on-call during the week with out of hours on-call sharedamongst the consultant colleagues. Attendance at morning and evening handover is expected. Clinics are cancelled during the Duty Paediatrician week to provide full ward / emergency cover.

  • GMC registered/licensed Medical Practitioner or eligible for registration
  • Medical Degree - MBBS or equivalent
