Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to appoint a Specialty Doctor post in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. The post holders will cover out of hours work in the intensive care unit and elective theatre lists in hours. Job plans will be negotiable with the successful candidates, although will include an average of 1in 8 out of ours shifts as part of the senior resident rota on the ICU.
Main duties of the job
The job plan will involve resident nights and weekend work as well as routine daily work. To begin with there will be a rolling rota for out of hours work, shared with senior trainees. Over the first 6-12 month after appointment, it will be possible to vary the rota pattern to suit the appointed candidates. Exact job plans for day time work will be negotiated between the successful candidates and the department to suit both parties. The appointee is expected to be flexible for both routine and out of hours work. The theatre rota will be produced up to 4 weeks in advance using CLW electronic rota system. The exact theatre sessions and anaesthetic subspecialties will also be negotiated with successful candidate, with reference to their areas of interest where possible.

There will also be a more junior trainee/trust grade covering the ICU. There is a consultant resident until 11pm each day then non-resident on call overnight. There is a separate trainee or trust grade on call for theatre cases as a senior resident doctor the post holders may be asked to assist the on call trainee in theatres on occasion, if the workload on ICU permits.
Sessions in theatre would include provision of anaesthesia for patients in multiple surgical specialties, including orthopaedics, general, ENT, maxillo-facial, ophthalmology, gynaecology, urology and plastic surgery.
