Acting Consultant Psychiatrist Old Age Psychiatry

Job summary

This post is an excellent and new opportunity for a doctor with Approved Clinician who has a special interest in Old Age Psychiatry.

The post holder will provide Acting Consultant Psychiatric input into Oakwood ward predominately. Oakwood ward is a 10-bed general adult acute psychiatric ward located in Carleton Clinic, Carlisle.

This role will be in addition to current medical input on Oakwood functional illness and Ruskin Dementia ward which includes a locum Old Age Psychiatrist, two nurse consultant Responsible Clinicians, and a Consultant Neuropsychologist, Specialist grade doctors, resident doctors and a specialist doctor with experience in geriatric medicine. A further GP post is currently in recruitment stage.

There will be access to Psychiatrist support and peer supervision from the excellent locum Psychiatrist currently in post with CCT in Old Age Psychiatry. Dr Anindya Gupta, Acting Consultant in General Psychiatry (or from a Consultant Psychiatrist on call when he is not available) and peer supervision from experienced specialist in geriatric medicine already in the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in a multidisciplinary setting focusing on the mental health of people over 65, managing complex interactions between mental illness, physical health (frailty), and social needs using biopsychosocial framework. They will diagnose and treat conditions like dementia, late-life depression, schizophrenia, and anxiety, providing person-centered, holistic care in hospital.
