Job summary

This is a vacant substantive Consultant Psychiatrist in the field of General Adult Psychiatry, who will provide input into Rowanwood Working Age Adult (WAA) female assessment and treatment, located within Carleton Clinic, Carlisle.

The post holder would have a balanced job plan. The postholder has the option to work part-time with doing minimum 6 sessions.

The post holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that currently includes a Nurse Consultant (AC/ RC), 1 WTE Trust Grade doctor, 1 International Medical Fellow (Specialist grade, s12 approved doctor), registered nurses, healthcare assistants and administration colleagues. The post holder will provide minimum 6 PAs of direct face to face clinical contact to the ward. There is support for flexible working, extended hours and remote working.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead the multidisciplinary team in the intensive management of acute, severe mental illness. The postholder will diagnose and treat mental health conditions in working-age adults (typically 18-65), including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, organic illness and depression, provide intensive, short-term inpatient care, crisis management, in a trauma informed manner.

Duties include ward Rounds, daily reviews and professionals meetings : Leading regular MDTS, reviewing medication, and managing patient care plans.

Medicolegal work: Reviewing detentions and testifying at Tribunals.

Collaboration: Working with community teams to facilitate transitions, admissions and discharges.

Support: Providing supervision to junior medical staff and leading on quality improvement projects.
