Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and wear (CNTW) NHS Foundation Trust

Specialist Occupational Therapist

The closing date is 20 April 2026

Job summary

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and driven Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Community Children & Young Peoples Eating Disorder service (CYP CEDS). We are based within Benton House and cover a large geographical area (Newcastle, Northumberland, Gateshead, Sunderland and South Tyneside), where we have satellite clinics, therefore being able to travel independently is essential.

The Occupational Therapist (OT) within CYP CEDS plays a vital role in supporting young people experiencing eating disorders to regain independence, improve daily functioning, and achieving meaningful participation in everyday life. Working as part of multidisciplinary team, the OT provides holistic, recovery-focused interventions tailored to the development, emotional, and social needs of children and adolescents.

You will be required to engage with the wider multidisciplinary team and to work across agencies to deliver packages of care in the role of occupational therapist and/or keyworker and/or caremanager including mental health assessments.

Main duties of the job

The role involves assessing the impact of eating disorders on occupational performance, including self-care, education, social participation and family life. The OT develops and delivers individualised care plans that promote healthy routines, re-establish balanced lifestyles and support engagement in age-appropriate activities.

Key responsibilities including delivering evidence base therapeutic interventions, contributing to risk management and care planning, working collaboratively with families and carers, and liaising with schools, community organisations and other pfrofessionals. The OT may facilitate group programmes, provide psychoeducation, and support sensory and emotional regulation strategies to enhance recovery outcomes.

This role requires a compassionate, flexible, and client centred approach, with a strong emphasis on early intervention, community-based care and promoting long term wellbeing. The OT also contributes to service development, clinical governance and ongoing evaluation to ensure high quality care delivery.

The successful candidate will benefit from encouragement to continue to develop their own specialist knowledge and competence. Their development will be guided using clinical supervision, team/peer support and training opportunities, using the Trust's appraisal process.

About us

We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. In return we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.

NHS Employees identified as at risk of compulsory redundancy and those eligible for the NENC Re-Deployment careers hub will receive prior consideration.
