Mobility Therapist
Band 6 Permanent Role

North East Drive Mobility (NEDM) is a growing service and we are excited to invite applications from healthcare professionals who are interested in the challenge of a developing role in a specialist service.
NEDM is a specialist clinical service within Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne & Wear (CNTW) NHS Foundation Trust and is jointly funded by the Integrated Care Board and the Department for Transport. NEDM is part of the national coverage of Mobility Centres accredited by *Driving Mobility. Our main centre is based at Walkergate Park Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, with outreach services located in Cumbria and Teesside.
*Driving Mobility is the UK wide network of Mobility Centres providing assessment, advice and information on all aspects of personal mobility. Driving Mobility is the umbrella organisation for all Accredited Mobility Centres. It ensures that there are common standards, promotes good practice, offers training and education, and works closely with organisations such as the Department for Transport, the DVLA, Motability, police and varied healthcare professionals.
Main duties of the job
Reporting to the Team Manager and Clinical Lead, the postholder will:
- Undertake highly specialised passenger assessments which will include child car seat and car safety assessments.
- Be able to work with a broad spectrum of clients, from children to older adults, with a range of medical conditions that may impact their ability to safely access or travel within a vehicle.
- Assess user safety of powered wheelchair/mobility scooters and provide clinical advice on suitability of options for those wishing to self-fund.
- Provide advice on appropriate equipment stowage options dependent on level of clinical need.
- Autonomously manage own diary and caseload, prioritising referrals based on level of need, urgency and complexity.
- Use client centred principles and an evidence-based approach in the assessment and evaluation of interventions.
- Communicate and provide written specialist clinical advice following an assessment to clients and where needed their carers and/or healthcare professionals.
- Develop relationships with third party agencies, including equipment retailers, to co-ordinate effective joint assessments as needed and to have up-to-date information on products available.
- Support the development of North East Drive Mobility services by contributing to specific multi-disciplinary audit and research projects, including the development of integrated care pathways.
- Provide specialist advice to other professionals within and outside the Trust with regard to the specialist area.
